Okisthisthingon? Oh com’on now silly, I know this isn’t a mic but it is as good as one in the digital age we live in… I mean when else could you talk about how this seasons asparagus was much shittier than the last and have 50,000 people hear bout it. Ok, slight exaggeration on numbers, but is it? Look at the platforms around you and all of a sudden, some ridiculous seemingly minuscule post about a vege you’ve got to be mental to honestly enjoy makes a trend in social media. Possible. Yes. Absolutely. For the record brussel sprouts are up there when it comes to veges that make ya go *spew* Let’s face it, we’d rather not be eating ‘em.
I’m about to embark on an adventure, an experience, perhaps even the most defining journey of my travels to date. (for those of you just getting a dose of me for the first time, in short, I’m Kiwi, I’ve been away from NZ for over 4 years travelling and experiencing down right epic awesomeness all around the globe) I am planning a bonanza of dance music, travel, people and cultural feeling. I am planning a Show On The Road.
Take dance music, just for a second, like it or lump it (and I understand every perspective on the matter) it is an emerging, heaving beast. More and more people are following EDM (Electronic Dance Music, get used to it you’ll hear me refer to that acronym a lot in the next 6 months) and Electro. The world is going through an exploration, growth and understanding phase at present. Like in 1998-2004 (generous time frame) we saw a bunch of “dance” or “house” music hit the airwaves and the TV screens, it peaked and it had its fall for many reasons, none of which I dare to touch on just now because there’s lots to cover and so much time to do it in.
Nowadays the internet is the biggest driver behind this discovery and exploration of dance music or house as people seem to mistaking refer to it as. The internet is just starting baby, its capabilities already far exceed what most people can fathom, most of the world is catching up hence companies going from dot in existence to worth 500 million dollars. It evolves on a daily basis, as does dance music, but now unlike in the early naughties it is of better quality and more and more people are able to access the tools for less $$ to produce the standard quality. The emerging artists are out there, they are hungry and firing to be a part of this incredible growth.
Summer 12; I swore at the end of last year 2012 was going to be the time for EDM and the scene as a whole with mass appeal and global reach in mind. I still believe it and I am going to take my gear (mic, mixer and broadcast software) and try to capture the essence of this growth in the USA and Europe. My plan is quite literally to capture and produce a Show On The Road.
Much to think about in terms of itinerary but follow this tumblr account and my other social networks and you will be in the loop as to my adventure into dance music globally.
Let me ask you this? If you’re remotely into dance music, what is the name of one artist who you currently follow and listen too? I bet they were a nobody in your book 3 years ago.
